I can't sleep.
I'm lying there at 3am with the news in my head and it hits me — and once it hit me I couldn't un-see it.
Trump has zero fucking intention of winning this war with Iran.
Not because he can't. Because winning isn't the point. The war isn't the point. The war is the cover story.
Follow the Oil. It's Not Hard.
People keep talking about the Middle East like it's the whole ballgame. It's not. Only about 30% of the world's oil supply comes from that region. So why is a man who screams "America First" burning the world down over it?
Because he's not just going after Middle East oil.
He's going after all of it.
Venezuela — Done. Already Happened.
In January, U.S. special forces captured Nicolás Maduro. Overthrew his government. The Trump administration then announced it would control Venezuelan oil sales — indefinitely — with all proceeds settling in U.S.-controlled accounts.
Venezuela holds the world's largest proven oil reserves. 303 billion barrels. 17% of everything proven to exist on earth.
Trump didn't even try to hide the motivation. At his Mar-a-Lago press conference the morning of the raid, he said — on camera, out loud — that U.S. oil companies would go in, spend billions, fix the infrastructure, and start making money. "We're going to get the oil flowing the way it should be," he said. "We'll be selling large amounts of oil to other countries."
That's not a drug enforcement operation. That's a country being seized for its natural resources. They just dressed it up in a narco-terrorism indictment.
Canada — In Progress.
Canada provides about 60% of U.S. crude oil imports. Canada has massive oil sands. Enormous reserves. Trump has called the U.S.-Canada border "an artificial line" drawn with a ruler. He's called Canada "the 51st state." He slapped tariffs on everything Canadian — except oil and energy, which got a lower rate.
He's been pressuring Alberta specifically. The Alberta Prosperity Project has reportedly met with the U.S. State Department multiple times. Treasury Secretary Bessent called Alberta a "natural partner for the U.S."
He's not trying to annex Canada because he thinks it would look prettier on a map. He's trying to absorb the country that controls 60% of what he imports.
Iran — The Next Venezuela.
Here's where it clicks. The Wikipedia entry on Trump's expansionism says it plainly: Trump "applied the Venezuela model towards Iran." The goal isn't to win a war. The goal is regime change — to install leadership more "compliant with U.S. demands such as greater access to oil reserves."
He's already talked about seizing the Strait of Hormuz. About taking control of Kharg Island — the terminal that handles 90% of Iran's oil exports. He reportedly floated renaming the Strait of Hormuz the "Strait of America."
I'm not joking. That's real. He said that.
The Iran war isn't about nukes. It was never about nukes. Nukes are the public justification — the thing they say when the cameras are rolling. The play is the oil. The Strait. The reserves. The same play they ran on Venezuela, just with more bombs.
Add It Up. The Math Is Right There.
Venezuela's reserves: 17% of global total. U.S. now controls it.
Canada's oil: 60% of what the U.S. currently imports — and Trump is working on that.
Iran's oil and the Strait of Hormuz: the chokepoint that roughly 20% of global oil supply passes through every day.
If this plays out the way it's trending — the U.S. controls or dominates more of the world's oil supply than OPEC ever dreamed of at its peak.
That's not foreign policy. That's not national security. That's not fighting terrorism or stopping nukes or any of the other things they're selling it as.
That's a fucking global resource heist.
And Here's the Part That Keeps Me Up at Night
I don't think Trump is smart enough to have designed this.
I think the man has dementia. I've watched him speak. I've watched the word salad get thicker. The digressions get longer. The same three grievances cycling on repeat. Something is very wrong cognitively and everyone around him is pretending not to notice.
Which means someone else is driving this bus.
JD Vance. Stephen Miller. The oil executives Trump met with before and after the Venezuela raid — his words, not mine. Someone in that orbit looked at a map, looked at reserves, looked at shipping routes, and said: here's how you make the United States the dominant energy power on the planet. Here's how you make every other country need you. Here's how you rule the world.
And the man currently sitting in the Oval Office is just the face on the operation. Angry enough to do it. Impulsive enough not to ask questions. Vain enough to call it a win no matter how many people die.
Bottom Line
I can't sleep because I feel like I'm watching something that most people haven't connected yet.
This isn't a war about Iran's nuclear program. This isn't about drugs in Venezuela. This isn't about the "51st state" being a joke.
It's one play. Executed in three theaters. Control the oil. Control the chokepoints. Control the countries that sit on top of what the world runs on.
And when you own the fuel — you own everything that needs it to move.
Sleep on that.
