Jamie Raskin introduced a bill yesterday to create a 17-member commission to assess whether Trump should be removed under the 25th Amendment. Fifty Democratic co-sponsors. Four physicians. Four psychiatrists. A formal medical examination of the President of the United States.
It won't pass. Everyone knows it won't pass. The House is Republican. The Senate is Republican. The bill is dead on arrival and everyone in that building knows it.
But that doesn't mean he's wrong. Not even a little.
Look at What Prompted This Shit
On April 7, the President of the United States posted on Truth Social that "a whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again." He was talking about Iran. Threatening to end a civilization. On social media. At night. While the rest of the government was shitting themselves trying to figure out if he was about to launch nuclear weapons.
The next day he posted an AI image of himself as Jesus Christ. Then deleted it. Then claimed he thought it was a picture of him as a doctor. A fucking doctor. With a divine light coming out of his hand. Making people better. That's the official explanation from the leader of the free world.
He picked a fight with the Pope. Got into it with Italian PM Meloni. Called her "unacceptable." Threw Riley Gaines under the bus — one of his most loyal supporters — because she had the nerve to say posting yourself as Jesus is blasphemous. And that's just the last ten goddamn days.
The 25th Amendment Exists for Exactly This Shit
Section 4 of the 25th Amendment was written for exactly this scenario. Not for policy disagreements. Not for political revenge. For when the president is unable to discharge the powers and duties of office. That's the text. That's the standard. And if threatening to end civilizations on social media while posting yourself as the Son of God doesn't meet that bar, what the fuck does?
Raskin's bill would let Congress create the body that Section 4 specifically authorizes — "such other body as Congress may by law provide." It's not a coup. It's not partisan theater. It's a mechanism that's literally written into the Constitution for this scenario. The founders weren't stupid. They knew this day would come.
Is a man who threatens to end civilizations on social media while waging an unauthorized war fit for office? Is a man who can't tell the difference between Jesus and a doctor in a picture he posted himself competent to command the military?
Those aren't rhetorical questions. They deserve real answers. A medical examination. An honest assessment. Not another bullshit one-page letter from some sycophant doctor saying he's "the healthiest president in history." An actual, real, no-horseshit evaluation.
Bottom Line
The bill won't pass. The commission won't be formed. Republicans will call it a stunt. The White House will bring up Biden. The news cycle will move on to whatever insane thing Trump posts next.
But the 25th Amendment is in the Constitution because the founders understood that sometimes a president stops being able to do the job. And right now, the evidence is piling up faster than anyone is willing to deal with it. It's staring us all in the face and half the country is too chickenshit to say it out loud.
Raskin put it on the record. That matters. Even if nobody has the balls to do anything about it.
